Contemporary romance author Kimmie Ferrell is exploring new territory in her latest release, Only For Tonight.
Tell me about your latest book.
Set in Las Vegas, Only For Tonight features Xander McNair and Amara Chandler, two headstrong individuals whose chance meeting leads to a night neither expected. However, if you let Xander tell it, this night was exactly how he wanted it to be.
Why did you decide to write it?
Only For Tonight started out as a short story I had planned to submit to be included in a Spring Fling anthology that was later scrapped. The characters would not leave me alone until their story was told.
Who is your favorite character in the book and why?
Eek. This is hard to decide, but I absolutely love Xander. That young man made a lasting impression on me. He knew what he wanted, and when it seemed like he wouldn’t get the chance to have it, he made plans to do what was necessary. He was extremely determined.
What was the hardest part about writing the story?
The entire story. Only For Tonight is the first erotic romance I’ve written. It took me out of my comfort zone, and it didn’t help that the characters themselves were the ones pushing me. There were times when I thought about scrapping it. Even a few days before I announced the cover reveal, I was going back and forth on releasing OFT.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title and why?
Mistakes Are Meant To Be Made; Obstacles Are Meant To Be Overcome: The life of Kimmie Ferrell. The title serves as a reminder that I’m human. I’m not perfect. I can admit my flaws, while showing how I didn’t give up when I wanted to so many times.
What is something readers would be surprised to know about you? I wrote my first romance novel while in high school. I never completed it, and it may never see the light of day, but I do have it saved in a notebook. Sometimes I like to reread it.
Tell me about a book that changed your life and why.
I’ve read so many books over the years, and they all have had a lasting impact on me.
What’s next for you?
Right now, I am relaxing. I’ll start writing again in the new year, unless the characters bug me enough to start before the first.
