Author NiaShanta Ross is back with the sequel fans have been waiting for. I recently spoke with her about Worth Fighting For.
Tell me about your latest book.
Worth Fighting For is the long-awaited sequel to my debut novel, Worth the Wait, which debuted in 2016. It picks up three years after book one. The main characters, Salem and Natalia Shaw, are in the thick of it! They’ve hit some rough patches in their marriage and are faced with deciding if they should continue in marital bliss or go their separate ways.
What inspired you to write it?
I was married for eight years before my forever husband (who the book is dedicated to) went to his forever home. I know what it is to love your spouse, but also wonder if love is enough.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I’ve loved reading and writing for as long as I can remember. I was the kid who got excited during the book fairs and spent my summers competing in summer reading challenges. As far as writing, I’ve loved it for just as long.
What’s the best part of being an author?
I think listening to how readers connected with my books. Oh, and connecting with other authors.
What’s the hardest part of being an author?
Getting it out of my head onto the page.
What books have you read lately and loved?
Any and everything by Rhonda McKnight. I’m lightweight obsessed. I loved Michelle Stimpson’s latest Audible. And I’ve fallen in love with Jessie Marie’s Hometown Series.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
Super excited for the next Bennett installment by Rhonda [McKnight]. Norma Jarrett has two on my TBR list, [ReShonda Tate Billingsley’s] Miss Pearly’s Girls, and Vanessa Miller’s Something Good.
Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
I’ve always wanted Brely Evans or Jill Scott to play Natalia. As for Salem, Lamman Rucker or Kofi Siriboe.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on books three and four of the Worth It series. I kinda leave the readers wondering what’s next, so I’m working on that.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I’m so proud of this book. My late husband, a former football coach, would always tell his players to leave everything on the field. I can honestly say I did just that with this book. God will truly get the glory. Thank you for the feature, and keep on highlighting black books.
