Author Norma L. Jarrett Is Full of Surprises

February 18, 2022 by Chandra Sparks Splond

Norma Jarrett had a sweet treat for readers this week when she released Vivienne’s Valentine Surprise. We recently spoke with her about it.

Tell me about your latest book.
Vivienne’s Valentine Surprise is a novella.  Vivienne Adams is a teacher who reached her limit after a gun incident with a student. Normally, she’d go home and drown her woes in ice cream and Netflix, but this time, she goes to happy hour with her younger colleagues. On her way home, she has an accident, which could have been much worse. Vivienne prays, made a few cursory promises to God and  is given grace. However, she quickly learns how serious God is about those promises when she becomes an instant guardian to Bronwyn.

What inspired you to write it?
Recently a colleague and his wife finalized the adoption of a beautiful little girl.  I was able to witness the heartache, pain and eventual joy of their journey.  Of course, our spirituality and how God often answers prayers in the most unconventional ways.

When did you fall in love with the written word?
Between grade and middle school. I’ve always loved to read, but I remember writing poetry and stories at a young age.

What’s something readers would be surprised to know about you?
I love 70-80’s soft rock.

What books have you read lately and loved?
What Passes as Love: A Novel by Trisha R. Thomas

A Low Country Bride by Preslaysa Williams

What book(s) are you most excited to read next?

Feeding the Soul by Tabitha Brown (a Christmas gift)

The Dust Bowl Orphans by Suzette Harrison

Something Good by Vanessa Miller

Her Own Design:  A Novel of Ann Lowe, Fashion Designer to the Social Register by Piper Huguley

Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
I used to have a list, but I’m just going name one of my new favorite actresses: Chante’ Adams (any book lol)

What’s next for you?
More writing: novels, proposals and a screenplay and other creative ventures.

Do you have anything you would like to add?
Just gratitude for this feature, readers and the gift of writing
