For Author Sheryl Lister, There’s Nothing Like Forever

August 23, 2025 by Chandra Sparks Splond

Author Sheryl Lister is ready to take readers on an unforgettable ride. I recently spoke with her about A Promise of Forever.

Tell me about your latest book.
A Promise of Forever is the third book in what I lovingly call my Supper Club series. It features Jon and Terri Rhodes who, if you’ve read the first two books, have been having marital problems. Things have come to a head and, although they love each other, they now have to ask themselves if love is enough to keep them together. Of course, the Supper Club crew is firmly in their corner and rooting for them. Get ready for an emotional ride!

Why did you decide to write it?
I wanted to write their story because I wanted to know the “why” behind their difficulties. I was not ready for what Jon and Terri shared (cue up the tissues!). I also wanted to show that after the I Do’s, marriage can sometimes be messy, but choosing each other every day, all day is worth it.

Who is your favorite character in the book and why?
My hero and heroine are definitely my favorite characters. Watching them find their way back to each other was a joy. However, Mama Nora, who was introduced in A Perfect Pairing (Antonio’s grandmother), came in with her quiet wisdom and owned every scene!

When did you fall in love with the written word?
I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t reading. As a kid, I was the one who cheered for silent reading time in English class, was at the library EVERY two weeks to check out at least 12 to 15 books, and who could be found hiding in a corner with a book to avoid being disturbed.

If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
If I were to choose another profession, I would absolutely go back to being a pediatric occupational therapist. I love seeing my babies light up whenever they master a skill. Being able to positively affect their lives is one of the best feelings.

What’s the best part of being an author?
The best parts of being an author for me are being able to share my stories with the world, meeting the amazing readers who support and encourage me, and having author sisters/brothers who are in my corner cheering me on.

What’s the worst part of being an author?
The worst part of being an author for me is staying consistent with promoting and marketing. Finding the balance between writing and promoting has always been a challenge for me.

What books have you read lately and loved, and what books are you looking forward to reading?
Because I’ve been on back-to-back deadlines, I haven’t been able to read as much. My TBR [to-be-read] pile is out of control so I’m playing catch up…LOL! I enjoyed Protected by Sharon C. Cooper, and I went back to read Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes again. I’m  looking forward to the final installment of the Blessings series by Beverly Jenkins and catching up on the Generations series by authors Suzette D. Harrison and Suzette Riddick.

What’s next for you?
I’m currently finishing up my next women’s fiction, then I’ll be completing my Sassy Seasoned Sisters series.
