Author Natasha D. Frazier has just released her 20th book, and Black Fiction Addiction is excited to be a part of the celebration. I recently spoke with her about her latest release, Love Between the Pages.
Tell me about your latest book.
Love Between the Pages is a humorous, yet heartwarming story of two best friends who fall in love—or perhaps have been in love with each other for a very long while but have yet to realize it. Both Jayden and Lisa are focused on their careers and are at a point where their dreams have come true. For Lisa, that is to own and run her family’s bookstore. For Jayden, that is to become partner in the accounting firm he’s worked at since graduating from grad school. But now a tax debt threatens to snatch Lisa’s dream away, while Jayden is unsure if a partnership is the right path for him. As they each pursue their passions and purpose, the love they’ve always shared rises to the surface. As they navigate life’s challenges, Lisa and Jayden soon learn that the true dream lies in their connection. Love Between the Pages is a story of love, faith, and finding one’s purpose.
How long did it take you to write it?
I hadn’t thought much about the timing of this story until now. However, I started writing this book in 2021, but set it aside. I’ve published two three-book series between that time and now. Last fall, I began working on this book again and completely revamped the story. After Batch of Love, I had a better grasp of Lisa and Jayden’s characters which helped write their story. Not counting the years of downtime, it took me about four months to write Love Between the Pages.
Which character could you relate to the most and why?
I can relate to both Lisa and Jayden equally. I’m not sure I can choose for this story. In Love Between the Pages, Jayden is a CPA who also enjoys writing. That is me! And like Jayden, I spent a few years working in public accounting, so I have firsthand experience of what that’s like. Early in my career, I thought working to become partner would be my career goal, but that quickly changed the night I had to work until 3:30 a.m. only to return at 8:30 a.m. the next morning. Lisa and I both share a love for all things books. And like Lisa, I’m going to do whatever is within my power to solve a problem before involving anyone else.
How are you celebrating the book’s release?
This is my 20th book so I should have more planned. Aside from blog tours, I’ll likely share in this moment with my girlfriends over a slice of Chantilly cake.
Who is your author best friend (either in your head or in real life)?
Pat Simmons. She may not know it, but she certainly is. She’s become like my big sister, and I am truly grateful for her support.
What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve received?
Join a critique group. Around 2021, I did just that, and being a part of word weavers has helped me to grow in my writing.
What books have you read lately and loved?
Unfortunately, I have not read much lately for my own enjoyment. My time has been consumed with my fitness career and when I read, it’s been books with my nine-year-old. We’re currently reading and enjoying, President of the Whole Sixth Grade. One of the last books I read and enjoyed was Mel Walker’s Kiss You Back. I’d recommend it.
What books are you excited to read?
So many. Haha. Rhonda McKnight’s Bitter and Sweet is still on my list.
Toni Shiloh’s Hearts on the Fly
I also have several of Unoma Nwankwor’s titles on my TBR [to be read] as well.
What’s next for you?
I’m still working on The Four Kings series. This is a four-book romantic suspense series about the Kingsland Brothers who own a private security firm. They each find love while facing danger. Potentially, there will be a third book connected to Batch of Love and Love Between the Pages, featuring Jessie, Ginger’s assistant in Batch of Love.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
Love Between the Pages is a story of hope, love, faith, and purpose. I pray it encourages you to take a leap of faith in whatever direction God is leading you. Remember, the answer is always no if you never move.
