Debut author Alecea Walters is a living witness that age is nothing but a number when it comes to publishing. Between homework and hobbies, she managed to release her first book. I recently spoke with her about Guilty Remains.
Tell me about your debut novel.
It’s about a group of teenagers that go to a haunted house and find out the bodies being used as props are real.
Why did you decide to write it?
I decided to write it because I thought it would be cool to have a real book under my name that I can search on Google.
Who is your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Alex because he was the most fun to develop.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
When I was in first grade. We had to take AR tests as like comprehension tests, and I thought I had to take one every day, which kinda triggered an addiction.
How do you balance writing and school?
It wasn’t very fun. I only worked on the weekends because I absolutely did not feel like writing and doing geometry homework.
What author would you fangirl over?
Alan Gratz. No questions asked.
What books have you read lately and loved?
I actually haven’t read much recently, but the last book I read was American Royals by Katharine McGee.
What books are you most excited to read next?
I’m most excited to read Tokyo Dreaming by Emiko Jean. It’s been on my TBR [to-be-read list] for wayyy too long.
What’s next for you?
Uhmmm, school? I’m not really sure. I do want to write another book eventually though.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
Nope! 🙂
