It’s been a busy year for author Tyora Moody. She’s published several books, and she’s visiting today to talk about her latest release, Faithful Heart.
Tell me about your latest book.
Faithful Heart is book four in the Reed Family series.
Crime Scene Investigator Cori Reed is a certified geek who thinks he’s finally found the one. He’s been dating Geneva Sanchez for almost a year but is sensing some distance in the relationship. Not sure why, Cori gives Geneva her space.
After Cori is called to investigate a homicide crime scene, he soon realizes that Geneva could become a suspect. He’s determined to find evidence to prove her innocence, but Geneva is keeping secrets.
Cori knows that science doesn’t lie, but when the evidence continues to point toward Geneva, can Cori make the right decision despite what his heart says?
What inspired you to write it?
I started the Reed Family series in 2016 with the sisters, Jo (Broken Heart), Toni (Troubled Heart) and Asia (Relentless Heart). It’s taken me some time since I have several book series going to get back to writing the brothers’ stories.
Here is the synopsis of the series: Former Police Chief Justice Reed has long since retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, but his children are taking his legacy beyond where he could have ever imagined. Meet the five crime-fighting siblings from the Reed Family.
I’m very excited to wrap this series up with Cori’s story (Faithful Heart) on April 27, 2021 and then Jax’s story (Wounded Heart) on May 25, 2021.

When did you fall in love with the written word?
Probably when I learned how to read. I was reading before I started Kindergarten because between my mom and my aunts, I had a library full of books. I could remember hanging out in the books section as a kid instead of the toy section. When I received my first library card, it was a good thing the library was around the corner from my house because my arms got a good work out carrying loads of books home and then back again. LOL!
What’s the best part of being an author?
Storytelling. I love the art of crafting and telling a story. As an avid reader, I love being immersed in another world, place, neighborhood, etc. for a few hours. It’s a whole other adventure when you can create your own fictional worlds and characters for other readers to enjoy.
What’s the hardest part of being an author?
Marketing. No doubt marketing a book is the hardest because as an author you want to keep writing. But you can’t keep publishing books without some type of marketing plan. To strategize, implement and even budget for that marketing plan takes a significant chunk of time from writing. Time management is definitely essential.
What books have you read lately and loved?
I’m late to reading this book, but I just finished Children of Blood and Bone. In the past few years, I’ve been trying out reading new genres and fantasy is one of those genres that I’ve grown to enjoy. Not a surprise to me because I love fantasy or science fiction movies like Lords of the Ring, Matrix, any Marvel movie, etc. These are the types of movies I will watch over and over again. I was absolutely fascinated with how Tomi Adeyemi created this world and the depth of growth in each character. I’m looking forward to picking back up on the series with book 2 in the near future.
Another book I read earlier this year is Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Crosby. It was a gritty thriller that read like an action packed movie. I loved it!
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
Oh my goodness! I have so many books on my TBR list and a lot of them are book series. I’m usually listening to a few audiobooks and reading other books during the month. Those books can be thrillers, romantic suspense, cozy mystery or fantasy. I keep track of my books on GoodReads.com, so readers can always take a peek at what I’m currently reading.
If I had to choose a book it would be Wolf Point (Ash Cayne, Book 2) by Ian Smith. I really enjoyed reading the first book in the series, The Unspoken. Private detective books never get old for me. I like to see how authors develop new PIs.
Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
I have not thought about this until now! My main characters in Faithful Heart are Cori Reed and Geneva Sanchez. He’s a little older now, but I see Cori being played by Hill Harper. I enjoyed watching Hill Harper when he was on CSI NY. Cori happens to be a CSI.
For Geneva, I can see Zoe Saldana playing her part.
What’s next for you?
Wrapping up the Reed Family series with Wounded Heart, book 5, which releases May 25, 2021.
After that I’m going to work on some proposals for pitching to publishers and also dive back into the Eugeena Patterson Mysteries with book #5.
