Prolific author Vanessa Miller is back with a new book, and it’s something good.
Why did you decide to write Something Good?
I started writing Something Good at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. There was so much bad news everywhere you turned that I found myself just wanting to hear something good. So, that’s the position I put my characters in. Things are bad, until Trish prays for Something Good… then we begin to see God move on her behalf.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
In this book, a prayer for Something Good changes everything. So, basically I want readers to know and believe that prayer works… God is listening, so when we are going through dark moments in life, we can turn to Him and tell Him all about our troubles.
What do you want readers to learn from your life?
Perseverance. It has been ten years since I have had a book in a bookstore or written for a traditional publisher. But I didn’t stop writing. I still managed to release about 20 books as an indie author. I am thankful that I am now writing for Thomas Nelson, but I would write regardless, because I believe this is what God called me to do.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
When I worked in Corporate America, I worked in human resources, and I put together workshops. I loved that part of my job. So, if I wasn’t writing, I would probably be an instructor or a retreat host (lol). I am a retreat host.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I was nine years old sitting on my grandmother’s porch one summer night, listening to my father tell me a story about a rat. Only I didn’t know it was about a rat. He gave an image of something beautiful. When he finished the story, and I discovered it was about a rat, I knew that I wanted to do that. I wanted to tell stories about the hideous things my character do, and then allow the reader to see how God can come in and make it beautiful.
What’s something readers would be surprised to know about you?
I’m not sure of anything readers would be surprised about. I’m kind of boring. I just sit behind my desk and write most days… Oh wait, readers might be surprised to know that even though I am writing my 52nd novel right now, I am a big procrastinator. I could be playing solitaire when I should be writing. Or I’ll scroll down social media pages instead of writing. Thankfully, I’m able to stop myself after a while and get my work done.
What books have you read lately and loved?
The Adoption Surprise by Zoey Marie Jackson, All the Pastor Wants by Rhonda McKnight and A Duke, the Spy, An Artist and a Lie by Vanessa Riley
What books are you excited to read?
A Promise Fulfilled by Unoma Nwankwor, Wild Women and the Blues by Denny S. Bryce and Worth Fighting For by NiaShanta Ross.
What’s next for you?
I have another book releasing in 2022. What We Found in Hallelujah releases in November 2022.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I would just like readersto understand that Something Good is the book of my heart. I loved writing about Trish, Marquita and Alexis. And I pray they will love these characters as much as I do.
