Tell me about your latest book.
Keeping Receipts is set in the bustling city of Tallahassee, Florida. Lorraine Davis, an ambitious auditor troubled by the secrets of her past, crosses paths with Liam Whittington, a down-to-earth landscaping businessman. As they navigate their different worlds, an undeniable connection blooms, uniting their hearts amidst the backdrop of nature trails and spreadsheets. But as love grows, she must confront her past, and he must learn to accept her choices to build a future together. In this enchanting tale of love, redemption, and second chances, discover how two souls, worlds apart, find solace in each other’s arms amidst the unearthing of hidden truths.
Why did you decide to write it?
I decided to write Keeping Receipts because I wanted to craft a romance narrative that delved into the intricacies of love and relationships without relying on explicit sexual content. My aim was to portray a couple’s journey as they navigated obstacles, discovered new aspects of each other, and ultimately developed a deep and meaningful love, showcasing the beauty of emotional connection.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
I want readers to learn that love has a way of surprising us when we least expect it, often appearing in forms we hadn’t anticipated.
What do you want readers to learn from your life?
I hope readers will glean from my life that the most challenging experiences we endure can become invaluable sources of guidance and support for others facing similar struggles. Through my journey, I want them to understand the importance of resilience and perseverance, emphasizing that even in the darkest moments, there is purpose and opportunity for growth. Above all, I want them to recognize that everyone has a unique and meaningful role in the world, as part of God’s divine plan.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
If I could choose another profession, I would undoubtedly pursue a career as a gospel singer. Singing holds a special place in my heart, and I deeply cherish the opportunity to express my love for God through music. Being a gospel singer would allow me to share the message of God’s love and grace in a way that resonates with others, fostering a sense of spiritual connection and uplifting their souls through the joy of music.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I fell in love with the written word from the very moment I was introduced to it. Reading has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, as it ignited my thirst for knowledge and understanding. Every page turned opened a new world to explore, allowing me to travel to distant lands and immerse myself in diverse cultures and experiences. Through books, I’ve gained invaluable insights and perspectives, recognizing the immense value that reading brings in shaping one’s intellect and broadening one’s horizons. It’s not just a hobby; it’s a lifelong journey of discovery and enlightenment that I cherish deeply.
What’s something readers would be surprised to know about you?
Readers might be surprised to learn that despite being diagnosed with profound hearing loss in 2005, it hasn’t hindered my passion for reading, writing, or sharing the message of Jesus Christ. Despite facing this challenge, I’ve remained dedicated to my pursuits, using tools and techniques to overcome obstacles and continue pursuing my passions. My determination to spread the good news of Jesus Christ has only grown stronger.
What books have you read lately and loved?
Lately, I’ve been immersed in The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight, and it’s left a profound impact on me. The story resonated deeply with my own experiences, and I found myself drawn into the rich history of Black communities in Charleston. Learning about their resilience, perseverance, and the ways they thrived despite adversity was truly inspiring. What struck me the most was how the characters made provisions for future generations, mirroring a sentiment I hold dear in my own life. This book has encouraged me to reflect on my own legacy and how I can create a meaningful impact for generations to come.
What books are you excited to read?
I’m always thrilled to dive into anything written by Pat Simmons. Her ability to intricately weave themes of faith into her stories resonates deeply with me. I find her writing to be exceptionally well-crafted, and her characters feel incredibly relatable and authentic. Each time I pick up one of her books, I’m filled with anticipation, eager to embark on a new journey of spiritual growth and discovery. Simmons has a unique talent for drawing readers into her narratives, and I can’t wait to immerse myself in another one of her captivating stories.
What’s next for you?
Next for me is a whirlwind of creativity and connection. I’m currently immersed in crafting another love story set in the Tallahassee series, eager to continue weaving tales of romance and inspiration. Additionally, I’m excited to host a workshop where I’ll be sharing insights on the fundamentals of creating novel outlines, empowering aspiring writers to bring their stories to life. As a contributing editor for Victoria by Design magazine, I’m passionately working on my next article, delving into topics that inspire and uplift readers. And of course, I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to meet and greet new readers during my upcoming book tour, fostering connections and sharing the joy of storytelling along the way.
