With 25 years as a published author under her belt, author T. Wendy Williams has learned that words have power. I recently spoke with her about her latest release, The Power of a Love Song.
Tell me about your latest book.
The Power of a Love Song follows the intertwined lives of Madeline, a Juilliard-trained concert pianist, and JB, an ambitious NBA star. As they navigate the complexities of marriage, parenting, and their thriving careers, their love faces the trials of fame and distance. With Madeline enchanting European audiences and JB shining on the basketball court, their bond is tested by the temptations and secrets that come with their rising success. Inspired by the verses of 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, the novel delves into the endurance of love that is patient and kind, exploring whether their love can harmonize amidst life’s chaos and challenges.
Why did you decide to write it?
After writing, Lost in the Music, Book 1, and following up with A Melody for Madeline, Book 2, Madeline and JB needed a conclusion to their saga.
Who is your favorite character and why?
Madeline. One reason is her unwavering dedication and passion for her craft. Her resilience in balancing the demands of her career, marriage, and parenting while facing the challenges of fame and personal struggles makes her relatable and inspiring.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I was 11 when I fell in love with the written word. I loved how stories could transport me to different worlds and evoke emotions. One of the first novels I remember reading was Alice Walker’s The Color Purple.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
Like my character, I would love to travel the world as a classical concert pianist. Music is a powerful medium that connects us.
What author would you fangirl over?
Ta-Nehisi Coates
What books have you read lately and loved?
The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn
What books are you most excited to read next?
I’m waiting for the next exciting memoir. It’s like being handed a window into another person’s soul, where every page reveals the raw, unfiltered moments that have shaped their life.
What’s next for you?
I am currently working on my sixth novel, which is based on a screenplay that I wrote 20 years ago.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
In 2025, I will celebrate 25 years as a published author.
