Author Feyisayo Anjorin is giving us another installment of his Hypocrite series. I recently spoke with him about Love Lessons From The Life of A Hypocrite.
Tell me about your latest book.
Love Lessons From The Life of A Hypocrite is my latest book. It is the third book in the Hypocrite Series, the first and the second being One Week In The Life of A Hypocrite and Another Week In The Life of A Hypocrite.
In the story, the couple, Bosun Sanya and Titi Sanya, work through their troubled relationship in search of a semblance of their initial spark of love, they give men and women lessons based on personal experience and logic, to help potential lovers get things right, from the choice of who to love to the nurturing of love.
Why did you decide to write it?
The first two books didn’t tell the complete story, I wanted to explore the couple’s love a bit more.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
I want them to learn about love and how difficult it could be for two imperfect people to grow their love. There are lessons, and who would be better teachers of these than two hypocrites?
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I fell in love with the written word in my preteen years. My dad was an avid lover of the arts. I remember how much he loved starting the day with music, and he loved books; his leisure hours were spent reading, and he bought me colorful books. It was such a pleasure.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
I would probably be a forest and wildlife ranger. I love being surrounded by trees, hills and rivers, nature generally.
What is the best part of being an author?
The best part is the God-like privilege of creating lives and framing worlds and using characters to push your message.
What is the worst part of being an author?
Writing takes time, and it needs focus, and the world you are creating needs you to be as detailed in the conceptually relevant and emotionally relevant way as possible. But you have real-life responsibilities too, and if you are not going to be that bad father or husband, you need to give priority to the real people in your life. Maybe it’s not that bad, let alone being worse, but it is what it is.
What books have you read lately and loved, and what books are you looking forward to reading?
I just finished reading News From Home by Sefi Atta. I’m currently reading We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo, I’ve read Hafusatu Bebi by Fatima Bala, and The Gathering of Bastards by Romeo Oriogun.
What’s next for you?
I’m working on my next novel. I’m also a singer and songwriter, so I’m releasing new music early in 2026.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
One thing I’ve realized is that we are all going to reap what we sow, so we need to make sure we are mindful of our seed, so that we will not regret when the time of harvest comes.
