Charmine Everly has stepped into a new chapter, born out of grief. I recently spoke with her about her romance, Right Pieces, Wrong Man.
Tell me about your latest release.
Right Pieces, Wrong Man is a contemporary romance centering around an ambitious and accomplished doctor, Angie, who is struggling to find the same success in her love life. She wonders if she is settling or expecting too much to have the kind of love she dreamed of having.

Why did you decide to write it?
I wrote as a way out of grief. My mom transitioned to heaven almost two years ago, and about one year afterward, I was advised to take a leave of absence from work, and during that time, to bring joy, happiness and hope into my life, I used writing as a form of escapism. I created characters that were relatable and real and of course, with a happily ever after.
What was your most memorable experience writing this book?
Telling my dad that I’d written a book. Not much I do surprises either of my parents, but he was caught off guard because I did not share it until I had the full series completed and let him know I’d be publishing it. Handing him a hard copy was really special.
Which character in the book would you like to have as a best friend and why?
Honestly, the series has a strong sisterhood theme, and that is very intentional, so any of the characters would be amazing as real-life besties. But to answer the question, I think I’d like to have Angie as a best friend because she’d unknowingly always inspire me to level up!
What’s something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
That I used to have a hair blog years ago. So writing, while not necessarily a lifelong dream, is also not new to me.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Watch women’s sports and attend concerts, especially R and B.
What’s the most difficult part of being an author?
Not knowing other authors in real life to discuss the journey with!
Who are some of your favorite authors, and what are some of their books you love?
Oh my goodness—so many. I’ll go old school with some of my oldie but goodies: Beverly Jenkins (Capture the Dawn, Indigo), Niobia Bryant (Strong Family Series), Eric Jerome Dickey (Friends and Lovers).
What’s next for you?
I am hosting a book launch party on May 23 in Atlanta to celebrate Right Pieces, Wrong Man. I’d love for any of your viewers in the metro-Atlanta area to join me for an afternoon of luxury, laughter, and connection with drinks and refreshments, signed copies, photos, and plenty of time to meet, mingle, and celebrate together.
I’m looking forward to releasing the entire Wrong Series this year and seeing how readers respond. I’m also attending several in-person book events and am excited to meet readers in person.
