It’s always a pleasure to have Kimberla Lawson Roby stop by for a visit. Today, she’s back to talk about her 25th novel, Copycat, which releases this week.
Tell me about your book, Copycat.
Copycat is a story about two women, Simone and Traci, who become close friends—and how Simone becomes obsessed with copying every single thing Traci does.
Why did you decide to write it?
I was inspired to write Copycat because I believe that every woman has experienced copycatting at some point in her lifetime. She may have been copied by a friend, family member or co-worker or she may have even been a copycat herself without realizing it.
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
My hope is that readers will see how important it is for everyone to focus on his or her own thoughts, desires, and ideas versus mimicking someone else’s. I also hope readers will learn how important it is to stay true to yourself and how if you don’t, you will likely end up jeopardizing your own personality.
Copycat is your 25th book. What has been the biggest surprise about your career?
My biggest surprise is that I’ve written as many novels as I have. Writing novels was never a lifelong dream of mine, but at the same time, it has certainly been a wonderful blessing.
How are you celebrating the release of the book?
The same as with all my books, I’ll be spending that entire first week of release out on tour with my readers. Meeting and talking with my readers continues to be the absolute best part of my writing career.
Who is your favorite established author and why?
I actually have a number of favorite authors. Some write fiction and some write non-fiction.
What’s next for Kimberla Lawson Roby?
My 26th novel, Sin of a Woman, will be released June 20, 2017. This story is also the 14th title in my Reverend Curtis Black series.
