Author Khara Campbell is exploring whether opposites really do attract in her latest release. I recently spoke with her about Moth to a Flame.
Tell me about your latest book.
Moth to a Flame is Christian fiction romance novel. Synopsis: They are an unlikely pair to be drawn to each other. He’s a drug dealer. and she’s a widowed Sunday school teacher. She teaches about the love of Christ. He ascribes to a dangerous life. She’s seen as the good in the world. He’s seen as the problem. Despite the differences, the undeniable attraction is there. Yet, it doesn’t need to be acted upon. They know this. They try this. But the heart wants what the heart wants. Though, the heart is not always right.
Why did you decide to write it?
I’m a sucker for love and romance, so it’s a definite theme for the majority of my books. Also, in this new novel, not judging a book (person) by its cover is a lesson I wanted to portray. Too often we sometimes continue to view a person by their negative past disregarding the positive changes they’ve made in their lives.
Who is your favorite character in the book and why?
Quinton definitely. He lived his life on his own terms despite what people thought of him. And he’s the type of man that knows what he wants and goes after it.
What was the hardest part about writing the story?
Hmm, honestly I can’t think of any difficulties I had writing this novel. Maybe after writing it and having to publish and market it. As an independent author, marketing is my greatest struggle.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title and why?
Oh my! I need a second to think about this question. A book about my life is not necessarily one I think would be very interesting. Hmm, the title may be All the Things She Wished She Did. Though that title would definitely change within a year or three to She Did That. Because I’m working on a few things.
What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
Remain true to yourself. Never lose yourself in anyone or thing.
What is something readers would be surprised to know about you?
I’m terrified of snakes in real life, books or television.
Tell me about a book that changed your life and why.
The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. At a time when I felt lost and just drifting through life, this book was a huge reminder and encouragement that I do have a godly purpose here on earth.
What’s next for you?
More writing. I hope to produce another stage play soon and prayerfully movies as well.
