Author Michelle Lindo-Rice Shows There’s Nothing Like ‘Sisterhood’

August 21, 2024 by Chandra Sparks Splond

When four friends agree to buy a bookshop, what could go wrong? Author Michelle Lindo-Rice tackles the topic in her latest release, The Bookshop Sisterhood.

Tell me about your latest book.
The Bookshop Sisterhood is a story of four friends who decide to open a bookstore, but then each receives four little words that create turmoil in their lives. As the launch approaches, will these friends be able to overcome all the drama in their lives, or will it rip their lives apart?

How long did it take you to write it?
I would say it took me a good four months. I use an app to track my word count so it was about 50 days or so, but there was time spread between.

Which character could you relate to the most and why?
In a way, I could relate to each of these women, but I think I felt a bond with Celeste. Celeste was in a solid relationship with her husband, and their conflict centered around Wade caring for her but Celeste not [being] willing to care for herself the way that she should. I loved their bond and also their attraction for each other was fire!

How are you celebrating the book’s release?
I was fortunate to celebrate The Bookshop Sisterhood by doing a book signing on the beach here in Delaware. I also attended the National Book Club Conference where I hosted a session to talk about this special story. It combines books and friends, both [of] which are very meaningful to me.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I love reading and also catching up with family and friends as well as spending time with my husband. We either talk for hours or we are watching our favorite TV shows.

What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve received?
I have received so many! I think though taking the time to get to know the characters is a valuable piece of writing advice. Allowing the characters to shape and tell the story instead of me leading them.

What books have you read lately and loved?
I have read Elin Hildebrand’s 28 Summers, Farrah Rochon’s Pardon My Frenchie, and RaeAnne Thayne’s 15 Summers Later.

What books are you excited to read?
I am currently reading Kennedy Ryan’s When You Are Mine and I am excited to read Mary Monroe’s Double Lives.

What’s next for you?
I recently submitted a second women’s fiction book and am getting ready to write book 4 of the Fortune’s series slated for next year for the Harlequin Special Edition imprint.

Do you have anything you would like to add?
I would like to add how much I am grateful to be able to write books that I hope resonate with readers. Please reach out to me if you have enjoyed my stories. I love hearing from readers. It is because of readers why I am still writing.
