Author Natasha D. Frazier believes sweet reads and sweet eats have the makings for an amazing second-chance romance. She’s combining the two in her latest release, Batch of Love.
Tell me about your latest release.
Batch of Love is a second-chance romance between former high school sweethearts. Ginger, a baker, and Brock, a lawyer, reconnect almost twenty years after high school when they run into each other inside of the mall—literally.
Ginger owns her own bakery inside the mall’s food court, but has dreams of owning her own brick-and-mortar store. She’s already picked the perfect location. When she receives news of a baking competition, she’s certain winning the grand prize will get her what she’s always wanted.
However, the competition host is Decadent Dough, a big box retailer, and Brock’s employer. When Brock decides he wants a promotion, he has to prove himself by bringing a deal to the table—one with a mom-and-pop bakery willing to operate under Decadent Dough as a subsidiary.
And of course, he sets his sights on Ginger’s Goodies after reconnecting with her again.
Ginger and Brock’s careers and hearts hang in the balance, and they’ll have to choose which is worth saving.
Why did you decide to write it?
I’m a fan of second-chance romances. Most of my fiction has the second-chance romance trope. However, this story was inspired by the characters. When creating a story, I develop the characters first. Ginger’s occupation as a baker was inspired by the keto diet, which I tried about four years ago. I discovered different ways to still enjoy sweets, but did a little more research on the alternate ways to bake for Ginger’s character. When it comes to her love life, her heart has always belonged to her baking, aside from the relationship she had with Brock many moons ago. After creating her character, it was easier to create his and come up with reasons why they couldn’t be together in present times.
What was your most memorable experience writing this book?
With this story about a baker, researching and learning new recipes was fun. The Crazy Caramel Apple Pie Bomb is one that is still on my list to bake.
Which character in the book would you like to have as a best friend and why?
Ginger’s best friend, Lisa, would be my pick. She’s the kind of person anyone would want by their side. The one who will encourage your dreams, but also tell you when you’re messing up, even when you don’t want to hear it.
What’s something readers would be surprised to learn about you?
I teach Les Mills Bodypump classes twice per week. Bodypump is a full-body resistance workout with high reps and low weights. I fell in love with the program about four years ago and decided to take it to the next level by coaching the class at my local gym.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I’m either learning choreography to Bodypump, reading, or watching movies with my family.
What’s the most difficult part of being an author?
One of the most difficult parts of being an author is finding different ways to get the word out about my books. Marketing is certainly a process and journey in itself, but I enjoy learning new ways to market and meet new readers.
Who are some of your favorite authors, and what are some of their books you love?
Some of my favorite authors are Rhonda McKnight, Michelle Stimpson, and Toni Shiloh. I’m loving all of their latest works. I’ve read, The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight, and her newest release, Bitter and Sweet is on my list. I’m currently reading Sisters with A Side of Greens by Michelle Stimpson. Toni’s A Run at Love is also on my list.
What’s next for you?
I am currently writing Lisa (Ginger’s best friend in Batch of Love) and Jayden’s story. It is possible that Jessie might also have a story as well.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I’m still working on The Four Kings series (spin-off of The Wrong Seat, book 2 in the Langston Sisters’ series), so readers should be on the lookout for that as well.
