If you follow Candice Johnson on social media, then you know she loves dance, tacos and writing—and not necessarily in that order. She’s putting some of that love on full display in her latest release Taco ’Bout Love.
Tell me about your latest book.
Taco ‘Bout Love is the story of Paisley Bent, who’s biggest desire is to own a taco truck. After a series of failed attempts to convert the dilapidated ice cream truck her grandfather gave her into her dream vehicle, Paisley meets Ever Loving, the handsome police officer who’d rather open a mobile library and get lost in books than work the beat. They both know what they want, but with neither having the money to start their businesses, there’s only one solution: They have to get married.
Why did you decide to write it?
People say write what you know…I know TACOS. And, I love them! It was so easy for me to get lost in Paisley’s character, because she loves what I love, and I’m so, so, proud of the results!
What do you want readers to learn from the story?
I want readers to learn not to put themselves on hold. We deserve more than what others want for us…we deserve what we want for ourselves.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I learned to read at the age of three…it’s been all love from that time, until now.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
I dance, and I write. I can’t imagine doing anything else, although I am expanding into screenwriting, because of my love of television and film.
Who would you love to coauthor a book with?
There’s so many I don’t want to name one…but there are tons out there that I would love the opportunity to work with.
What books have you read lately and loved?
Rhonda McKnight, Bitter and Sweet. She’s such a phenomenal storyteller.
What books are you most excited to read next?
Victoria Christopher Murray, Harlem Rhapsody. Have you seen that gorgeous cover?
What’s next for you?
Writing more books! Books #2 & 3 in the Taco Truck Romance trilogy (Talk Taco to Me, You Had Me at Taco/Tule Publishing) release in early 2025, and I’m working on a new series as well. All I can say is get ready to see “Coming Soon” a lot from me…
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I appreciate all that you do to help spread the word about our books! And at the end of the last chapter of every book I write, I hope to leave readers with hope in the hearts, love on their minds, and a laugh here and there to make their day brighter.
