Author BriAnn Danae Brings the Drama in Women’s Crime Thriller

March 21, 2025 by Chandra Sparks Splond

Prolific author BriAnn Danae is back with a women’s crime thriller you don’t want to miss. I recently spoke with her about Jack Girlz Atlanta.

Tell me about Jack Girlz Atlanta.
Jack Girlz Atlanta is a women’s crime thriller that follows the lives of three sisters, Mia, Hazel, and Teyona, who find themselves wrapped in a web of family secrets, blackmail, and the dangerous world of prescription drug dealing. The book dives deep into complex family dynamics, loyalty, and the bond between sisters. They’re each carrying their own burdens and secrets, but their motive to come out on top is the same.

Female-driven crime thrillers are gaining more prominence. What inspired you to write this story?
I was inspired to write Jack Girlz Atlanta from [Black Odyssey Media CEO and founder] Shawanda [Williams]. She wanted me to create something fresh and new tailored to white-collar crime. One of my strong suits in writing is portraying the love between friends, sisters, brothers, and family with some drama intertwined so I knew right away what the plot would be. What pushed me to write all the plot twists and secrets you’ll read about is my need to see how everything turned out at the end. I had to find out who the missing person was and why. There’s always a motive.

Who is your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Mia. She’s the older sister and so resilient. She took on a lot in the book, and seeing her get back story play out was everything.

When did you fall in love with the written word?
I fell in love with the written word in elementary school.

What author would you fangirl over?
I would and am most definitely going to fangirl over Takerra Allen and Shae Sanders. I meet both of these beauties this year, and I can’t wait.

What books have you read lately and loved?
I recently read Church Girl by Shae Sanders and loved it. I haven’t been reading much this year because I’ve been so busy, but when I do, I know I can count on her to give me just what I need at the time.

Your publisher, Black Odyssey Media, is a huge proponent of script-to-screen. How do you envision Jack Girlz Atlanta beyond the book?
A short film or something bigger. The sky is the limit.

What do you hope readers gain from your work?
To receive whatever it is that the story is meant to show them. Everyone’s lives and reading journey are different, so escaping between the pages of a book should be peaceful…or stressful, depending on the subject. Either way, I want them to always leave fulfilled in a way that was meant just for them in that moment.

What’s next for you?
Currently, I just want to write the stories I want to read, meet more of the amazing readers out here, and fall deeper in love with my craft. I do plan on diving back into my urban fantasy bag, so stay tuned for that.
