Romance author Danielle Brooks is back with another installment of her Fire Company 143 Series. I recently spoke with her about Through the Fire.
Tell me about your latest book.
My latest book, Through The Fire, is my second installment in the Fire Company 143 Series. It follows two people, Fallon Lennox and Benjamin Deacon, as they fall in love with the twist of finding out that they work together. In this book, you’ll find the two navigating a relationship while balancing their own personal life and the busy, action-packed life as a firefighter. This book does not skimp on the spice or the action that comes with being a firefighter.
Why did you decide to write it?
I usually just follow the vibes of my characters in my head. There’s really not a rhyme or reason why I chose to write Through the Fire. My characters spoke, and I wrote what they gave me, lol.
Who is your favorite character in the book and why?
Joni, hands down. Although she is a supporting character, she brings so much comedy to the story.
What was the hardest part about writing the story?
The hardest part of writing the story was Fallon’s backstory. It was not the best time in her life, but it was necessary to see her growth. I always want to write love, love, love, but sometimes, we need to get into the difficult moments of a character to give a full story.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title and why?
Hmm. It isn’t an original title, but the first title that came to mind was As The World Turns because I feel like my life has been its own little world while everything around me continues to go on.
What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
I would tell her to focus everything on her dreams and pursue it relentlessly. All the other stuff, especially the boys, will be there! lol
What is something readers would be surprised to know about you?
That I am a mother of two with one being in college. No one believes me when I say I have a 13- and 19-year-old, lol.
Tell me about a book that changed your life and why.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It introduced me to really taking control of my mind and thinking my way to everything I desire out of life.
What’s next for you?
Another book, and more books! I’m currently writing my next book with a release date in May 2025.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
Thank you to everyone who has taken a chance on me! 2024 was my first year in the book community, and I have gained so many supporters. I’m truly thankful for those who love and enjoy my work.
