Author Evie Daniels is bringing a ray of sunshine to book publishing with her debut release. I recently spoke with her about Behind the Forecast.
Tell me about your latest book.
Behind the Forecast is my debut book, and it comes out on April 15, 2025. It’s a rom-com–inspired story about a grumpy meteorologist named Dawson and a chaotic production assistant named Eden. It’s a cute workplace romance set at a news station, with found family vibes and great banter throughout.
Why did you decide to write it?
I used to write poems to express my feelings, but when I went to college, I lost my passion for it. It wasn’t until I recently lost a loved one that I started writing again. It became a great way for me to express my feelings and process my grief.
Who is your favorite character and why?
I love Toni because she is me. She only has a small part in the book, but she’s hilarious. She’s the queen of “fictional men are better” land, and I can’t wait to write her story.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
It was a creative writing class during my sophomore year of high school. My teacher gave us an assignment to pick a character from any play and write a short story from their point of view. I chose Bianca and explored why she would help destroy Othello. Othello is one of my favorite plays.
If you could pick another profession, what would it be and why?
One hundred percent a zookeeper. I love animals! But I’d want to work at the kind of zoo that lets them roam around and be themselves. I’d also love to be a tour guide—sharing facts and helping people connect with the animals.
What author would you fangirl over?
Kasha Thompson followed me, and I totally freaked out! I haven’t messaged her yet because I don’t want to come off as crazy, but I absolutely love her writing style. She’s the queen of rom-coms. My favorite book of hers is [Defensive Stance].
What books have you read lately and loved?
I just finished Losin’ Control by Ladii Nesha—it’s a really good book! I definitely recommend it.
What books are you most excited to read next?
[To be honest], my [to be read] list is so long. I have no idea what I’m going to read next—I’m such a mood reader.
What’s next for you?
I’m officially in my sports romance era, and I’m so excited about it!
Do you have anything you would like to add?
Reading books has truly changed my life. You can always find a character you relate to in some way. And don’t forget to support your indie authors—sharing their posts goes a long way, even if you can’t buy their books right away.
