Author Danielle Allen Didn’t Come to Play

If you’re looking for your not-so-typical love story, then you have to check out Danielle Allen’s latest release. I recently spoke with her about Plus Size Player.

Tell me about your latest book.
Plus Size Player is about a woman who doesn’t believe one man could possibly possess all of the qualities she needs so she is content dating around. She feels the same way about her work life. She loves the freedom of working multiple jobs (and having no boss) and having multiple men (and having no man). Her entire worldview is thrown into chaos when a man in her life begins showing signs that he could be everything she’s ever wanted. As if that isn’t complicated enough, a job opportunity that would force her to commit to only one job presents itself. The man is a dream come true and the job is a dream come true…but are both too good to be true?

How long did it take you to write it?
It took about three months to write.

Which character could you relate to the most and why?
I relate to Nina the most in Plus Size Player because she’s confident, secure in who she is, has a zest for life, believes in love, and doesn’t believe in settling in any area of her life.

How are you celebrating the book’s release?
I’ll be celebrating Plus Size Player releasing with a tour! Bramble is sending me on a few tour stops with the first one kicking off at Resist Booksellers in my home state of Virginia!

Who is your author best friend (either in your head or in real life)?
Brittainy Cherry. We met in 2014 and have been locked in ever since.

What is the most valuable piece of writing advice you’ve received?
It’s not really a piece of writing advice that I received. It was a piece of writing advice that I read. “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it” (Toni Morrison).

What books have you read lately and loved?
I haven’t been able to read much lately because I’ve been on deadline. The balance of being hybrid feels like I’m constantly either writing or editing something. It’s been a blessing though!

What books are you excited to read?
Too many to name! Kennedy Ryan’s newest book Can’t Get Enough just came out, and we are doing an event together during my release week, so I will be reading that as soon as I can.

What’s next for you?
After I finish the epilogue of Big Girl Blitz, I’ll work on a few things I have in store for fall—a homecoming story, a friends-to-lovers novel, and a Poe-inspired novel.
