It’s hard to believe we’re in the last few months of 2025. Before the holidays descend upon us and put a dent in your wallet, here are a few book events happening in 2026 that you might want to budget for.

JAX Urban Book Festival
January 22, 2026–January 24, 2026
Jacksonville, Florida

The JAX Urban Book Festival is an annual celebration of literature and culture founded by author Dr. V. Brooks Dunbar. Held each January as part of DREAMWEEK JAX, the free event showcases Jacksonville as a hub for arts, culture, business, and social progress.


African American Children’s Book Fair

February 7, 2026

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The African American Children’s Book Fair is one of the oldest and largest single-day events for children’s books in the country. It features nationally known bestselling authors and illustrators, many of whom have won some of the most prestigious literary awards including the American Library Association Coretta Scott King Award. These authors and illustrators have produced some of the best books of our generation.


Characters in the City

March 20–21, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina

The Characters in the City Book Event on March 20-21, 2026, in Charlotte, NC, features numerous authors, including Shvonne Latrice, Kendra Necole, Shontaly Moore, and Kayson Reece. The event also hosts over 30 authors and includes activities like author meet-and-greets, a costume-themed party with prizes for the best-dressed character, and R&B and trap karaoke.


Plots and Pours

March 27–28, 2026

Houston, Texas

Plots & Pours is a two-day literary experience created by Author zee reneé to highlight the voices of Black indie authors while building meaningful connections between authors and readers alike.


Chocolate City Literature Festival

April 25-26, 2026

Washington, DC

Where Black literature meets Black joy—this is not your average book fest. It’s the culture, the stories, the connections, and the creativity—on full display. According to the website, tickets are sold out, but be on the lookout in case more become available.


One Love Reunion

July 22–26, 2026

New Orleans, Louisiana

It’s a literary conference designed to bring authors, readers and industry professionals together to share their common love of books. This event showcases romance and women’s fiction books that give hope and escapism while providing a safe, inclusive and caring atmosphere. We offer three-and-a-half days of literary panels, workshops and activities culminating in one multi-author book signing and themed banquet.


National Book Club Conference

July 31–August 2, 2026

Atlanta, Georgia

Join the National Book Club Conference for the 22nd-Annual NBCC, which has long been described as the premier annual literary event featuring Black authors and readers. It’s called “Literary Bliss” because the weekend is full of access to some of the most acclaimed talent and dynamic unheralded authors with avid readers and book club members from across the country. It’s a reader’s paradise and an author’s delight.
