Author Sheryl Lister knows there’s nothing like good food, and she’s exploring it in her latest release, A Table for Two.
Tell me about your latest book.
A Table for Two, at its core, is all about friendship, family, and, my favorite…the road to finding happily ever after. Neither Serenity and Gabriel want to put their hearts on the line after having them broken until bonding over good food and a developing friendship turn into much more.
What inspired you to write it?
If you’ve read any of my books, you’ll know that music and food find their way into each one. So when I was presented with the opportunity to create an entire love story centered around food, it was a win-win for me!
When did you fall in love with the written word?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t read. I was the kid who checked at least twenty boxes on the Scholastic Books order form and the one who inwardly cheered during that fifteen-minute silent reading period at the beginning of class. Even now, I prefer reading to watching television.
What’s the best part of being an author?
The best part of being an author is the freedom to create and grow in my writing and allow each character to follow his or her own path, whether they’re burning up the sheets from page one, slowly building the relationship, or somewhere in the middle.
What’s the hardest part of being an author?
The BUSINESS of publishing, hands down! Promoting, staying visible, tracking sales, etc.…it can be, and often times for me, very overwhelming. I have to remind myself daily to take things in small bites and to give myself grace when I can’t do it all.
What books have you read lately and loved?
I’ve enjoyed Tempted by Sharon C. Cooper, The Dustbowl Orphans by Suzette D. Harrison and It’s Not the Hookup, It’s the Chase by Elle Wright. (I guess this should’ve gone under that category of the hardest part of being an author…not being able to read all the fabulous books released by my favorite authors…lol.)
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
I have SO many books in my TBR pile that it’s hard to choose! However, the first two will be To Catch a Raven by Beverly Jenkins and My Name is Ona Judge by Suzette D. Harrison.
Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
For Serenity Wheeler, I’d cast Kiki Layne, and to play Gabriel Cunningham, I’d cast Aldis Hodge
What’s next for you?
I’m working on the second book in the Supper Club/Firefly Lake series and trying to finish the final two books in my Sassy Seasoned Sisters series.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I just want to thank you, Chandra, for the opportunity to share with your readers. I appreciate you!
