Author LaChelle Weaver knows that truth is stranger than fiction, and she used that premise as the basis of her latest release. I recently spoke with her about Hello Beautiful.
Tell me about your latest book.
Hello Beautiful is about a newly divorced woman, Adore, who decides to try out a dating app at the suggestion of her friend Kitty who found love and her husband on the same app, but the experience isn’t as pleasant for Adore.
What inspired you to write it?
I’ve always been intrigued by true crime, so I watch a lot of true crime TV shows and listen to podcasts. Hello Beautiful was inspired from a story I heard on a podcast that gave me so many chills when I listened to it. I knew I wanted to write a story that delved into the “what if” question and with a much different outcome.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
Probably around fourth grade when my teacher, Mrs. Peggy Davis, read the class Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume, and that sparked my interest in reading and thus my love for writing. I wrote my first “manuscript” in fifth grade, and my teacher, Mrs. Diane Churchill, loved it. LOL!
What’s the best part of being an author?
Connecting with readers. Writing is such a solitary act, and you don’t know how your story will be received once it’s released out into the world, so it’s a great feeling when a reader tells you how much they’ve enjoyed your story.
What’s the hardest part of being an author?
For me, it’s staying consistent and motivated. Sometimes I let life get in the way, and I’m not always motivated to open up my laptop and write, but I’m trying to do better because I have so many stories I want to tell.
What books have you read lately and loved?
The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson had me captivated from the first page to the last and Interference, which is Book 2 in the Married to the Game series by Sherron Elise.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
I have so many in my Kindle library right now, but I’m looking forward to Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? by Crystal Smith Paul and You Were Always Mine by Christine Pride and Jo Piazza.
Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
Hmmm…That’s a question I hadn’t even pondered. LOL! But maybe new talent that hasn’t been seen before or as much.
What’s next for you?
Hopefully, more books. I’d love to release another full-length novel by the end of this year. I haven’t released a full-length novel since my debut novel, Sister Surrogate.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I’m so excited about the release of Hello Beautiful, and I’m looking forward to the feedback. I’m grateful and thankful for all the love and support I’ve received in anticipation. It has been such a blessing.
