I’m so excited author Kathy Douglass is visiting today to talk about her latest release, Redemption on Rivers Ranch.
Tell me about your latest book.
My latest book, Redemption on Rivers Ranch, is a friends-to-lovers romance. Carson Rivers and Gabriella Tucker had been friends when they were kids. Gabriella spent summers on her great-aunt’s and great-uncle’s ranch up until she was fifteen years old. Carson lived on a neighboring ranch, and they became best friends. Fifteen years later, she’s a divorced mother of two, and he’s running his family’s ranch.
Here is the official blurb:
The return of his childhood friend leads to the fresh start he never expected
Horse rancher Carson Rivers has his own emotional demons. There’s no place in his life for a divorced single mom pulling at his heartstrings. But when Gabriella Tucker and her adorable children move next door—the place of her favorite childhood memories—Carson’s tempted to help the heart-guarded beauty make more adult memories. Maybe Gabriella and her kids are the healing balm he’s been yearning for…
What inspired you to write it?
Carson appeared in my March 2019 book, The Rancher’s Return. He and the heroine, Raven Reynolds, had been engaged before her one true love, Donovan Cordero, returned. It wasn’t long before that engagement was over and Raven had reunited with Donovan. I always felt a bit guilty about the way I treated Carson. If you’ve read The Rancher’s Return, you know more of the pain I put Carson through. He is actually a good man who deserves a happy ending. I am so happy that he is getting that ending with Gabriella who is wonderful.
When did you fall in love with the written word?
Books have always been a part of my life. I don’t think there was a time when I didn’t like reading. In fact, I don’t remember learning how to read. It seems as if I always knew. When I was a kid, my mother would read to me and my siblings. Or the older kids would read to the younger kids. But I also liked to read to myself. I can remember “finding” books around the house. They would be on the piano bench or the dining room table. And as “luck” would have it, they would be just my level. I would pick up the book and then go sit down and read.
What’s the best part of being an author?
There are so many good parts. But if I had to choose one, it would be hearing from my readers. In pre-COVID days, I participated in reader events and met some really great people. Those events aren’t happening now, but every now and then someone will leave me a message on my website, which is great.
What’s the hardest part of being an author?
Learning how to do the things that aren’t directly related to writing. I enjoy creating the characters and figuring out how they are going to fall in love. But I’m not that good at promotion. I’m still figuring out how to reach potential readers.
What books have you read lately and loved?
Oh, there are so many. Waking Up Married by Reese Ryan, Won’t Go Home Without You by Cheris Hodges, Trust Fund Fiance by Naima Simone, and Stalked by Secrets by Deborah Fletcher Mello.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
I can’t wait to read Wild Women and the Blues by Denny S. Bryce, His to Protect by Sharon C. Cooper, An Officer and a Fortune by Nina Crespo, and An Earl, the Girl and a Toddler by Vanessa Riley. There are dozens of books on my TBR, but these are the ones that are next up for me.
Who would you cast in a movie to play your main characters?
I would choose model Rob Evans to play Carson Rivers and actress Nathalie Emmanuel to play Gabriella Tucker.
What’s next for you?
I have another book with Harlequin Special Edition coming out in November 2021 entitled A Kiss at the Mistletoe Rodeo. This book is part of a six-author continuity, and it tells the romance between Geoff Burris, the most famous rodeo star in the country, and Stephanie Brandt, a nurse in his hometown. Stephanie is the sister of the heroine in my September 2020 book, The Maverick’s Baby Arrangement.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
Thank you so much for the interview. I appreciate getting to know your readers.
